Mitongwe Woodland Reserve

This is our new property, which houses the Chisomo Training Center. This has been a big year for us!

In October the new International Board met for the first time at Mitongwe. The guesthouse was freshly completed and functioned perfectly for the combined team of 16.  Our group of 9 toured the property, met the existing staff, toured the onsite school, met with neighbouring village chiefs and led the “Days for Girls” workshop. The two teams (Stand As One and Charity Hands) spent time together in prayer and in discussion of the property’s potential.

Let’s start with our main goal of “Train the Trainers”, which is now underway. Showing the Foundation for Farming movie was a thrilling highlight for the community. The trainers, community women and students all received further instruction in the fields from our three main trainers, Steven, Enoch and Maxwell.

Our property houses a government-run school with 750 students and 10 teachers. Touring this school brought excitement, in witnessing all the great education that was happening, and also concern over the lack of facilities, food and water for this large group. We are already working on plans to address some of these glaring needs, for example, food crops have been planted that will help supply daily meals, the start of many projects here.

Irene and Ellen were able to lead several workshops based on “Days for Girls” guidelines, and distributed over 80 reusable menstrual packs. What an opportunity to educate and bless these girls, although the girls’ thanks in song left all feeling equally blessed.
