The Container Arrived!
It’s like Christmas at Mitongwe Woodland Reserve! The year 2020 has been an interesting one indeed. Who knew what was to come. In January we decided to send a container to our project in Malawi Africa through the Compassionate Resource Warehouse. That work immediately began with an experienced crew of retired people from all over Vancouver Island collecting goods and organizing supplies to fill our container. We loaded medical supplies for our community health evangelism program, preschool supplies, books for a library program, sports equipment for a summer camp program, food from Gleaners and much much more. Supplies for our guest house and the Chisomo training center were also added.
We loaded the container March 11th to the 13th and the journey began. The first challenge was having correct paperwork, the second challenge was the boat being hung up on a sandbar outside of Mozambique and needing to be refloated. Thankfully, no cargo was lost. Clearing customs in Mozambique took an extra week and then it finally arrived via rail to Blantyre. The container was transferred onto a truck trailer and brought to our property. What a joyous celebration it was for all of the staff and people of the farm to unload this massive amount of Goodwill from Canada.
Promoting Compost for Healthy Soils
Creating healthy compost from all the existing cuttings and debris is a skill the local people don’t have. Teaching them the value of compost, and training in the proper methods is an ongoing project for our team.
