We are so thankful to have the opportunity to introduce ourselves. We are Dan and Irene Schat, and together we established Stand as One Ministry. Miraculous beginnings! It all began with an encounter in a church foyer with a gentleman named Jack Schenk, who shared our passion for serving the impoverished communities in Malawi. During that meeting, Jack generously offered to donate his charity to us because he was preparing for retirement. We gratefully accepted Jack's offer and have since taken over his charity. We are now fully committed to carrying on the legacy of helping those in need in Malawi.

On our first visit to Malawi, we were moved by the level of poverty and realized that God was calling us to make a difference in the lives of those living there. It was heartbreaking to witness the poverty and it was a harsh reminder of the vast inequality that exists in the world.  We knew right then that we wanted to do something to help the injustice. It is our belief that together, with God’s grace and guidance, we can achieve our goal of service to those in need. We are committed to providing the necessary resources to those in need and doing our best to provide access to education and health awareness.  

As a husband, father, and nurse, Dan has always had the heart to love and care for people. Early in his nursing career, he had the opportunity to travel to Africa, where he was exposed to the harsh realities of life in Malawi. In response, he has dedicated himself to taking action to help those who are in need. For years, he has travelled to developing countries and volunteered his time to run medical camps and provide healthcare to those who otherwise would not have access to it. His years of experience as a nurse makes him well-equipped to provide sound advice and guidance to those in need of health education. Irene brings her extensive knowledge and experience in managing a successful food production factory that provided millions of meals to the less fortunate. Her knowledge of finances and non-profit is an incredible asset to Stand as One.

A step in faith. What started with rescuing one child in 2013 has now become a comprehensive effort to provide for the health and well-being of an entire community and beyond. Not only are we providing food for babies, kids and grannies, but we are also educating the residents on agriculture and growing gardens to care for their own communities. We look forward to working with you to make a difference and create a brighter future for the people of Malawi.  Our combined experience and knowledge make us eager to provide opportunities for those in need.
