Life Happening in Malawi

Dan and Irene are both back in the beautiful country of Malawi and will be spending the next seven weeks actively working on all the various programs. In addition to this, the focus will be on mentoring and developing the leaders to ensure their growth and effectiveness at Mitongwe.

Village Training

We continue to hold Village Mapping Sessions, spending three days in each village. Our trainers facilitate a process that maps the community, identifying households led by families, single mothers, or orphaned children. We explore the farming techniques in use and the food being consumed. This empowering exercise encourages community members to recognize their own challenges, allowing them to take ownership of their future. Once they identify these issues, we walk alongside them, supporting their journey toward food security.

It is challenging for seniors in our villages, especially with food becoming increasingly scarce. That's why we're so thankful that our Senior “Agogo” Feeding Program is starting in just a few weeks. Thank you to all who continue to support this program! To ensure proper preservation, we've decided to try a new storage method. We've purchased blue barrels and filled them with maize. To keep it safe from weevils, we’ll light a candle at the top and seal the barrels closed. As the candle burns out, it will remove the oxygen, creating a safe environment for the maize.

The garden goods

It's truly wonderful to witness the growth in the gardens. With the Health and Wellness Center launch in November, we're excited to organize cooking demonstrations featuring the fantastic vegetables we're cultivating. Everyone enjoys the diverse selection of fruits we have as well!

Chief Leadership Training

Dan and Kingsley have been conducting a Leadership Training Course for 24 village chiefs. After four weeks, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive! The workshops have provided a valuable chance for the chiefs to deepen their understanding of leadership while also spending time together and learning from one another to enhance their service to their villages.

The kids love the gardens

The children have had an absolute blast in the gardens! They dove into all sorts of fun activities, from planting tiny seeds to pulling out pesky weeds, and the excitement reached a peak during harvest time when they gathered their colourful bounty. It's been fantastic to see them work together like a well-oiled machine, transitioning their soccer teamwork into a new adventure in gardening. Laughter and cheers fill the air as they share tips, swap stories, and celebrate each little victory. Who knew that getting their hands dirty could be so much fun? This experience is not just about growing plants; it's about growing friendships and learning to collaborate in a whole new way!

Porridge is a highlight for the Preschool kids

We’ll leave you with a few pictures of our young Preschool group enjoying their daily porridge. We can’t beat this start to their day or this enjoyable end to ours.
