May in Malawi
In May, Dan and Irene journeyed to Malawi to engage in a flurry of collaborative activities with the Mitongwe team. They delved into mentoring, strategic planning, teaching, and execution. Furthermore, together with Darci, they welcomed a group from Canada who were enthusiastic about discovering Mitongwe, offering assistance, and learning about its operations.
A Splash of Technology
Irene introduced technology to Mitongwe, enabling our trainees to benefit from their efforts with a touch of digital innovation! Now, they have access to a "wallet" on their basic phones for the first time. Funds are transferred directly from the bank to their wallets, enabling them to withdraw small amounts of cash from a local agent as required, eliminating the risks associated with handling physical money. The trainees were thrilled to receive their initial deposit and see it appear on their phones.
60 Happy Girls
60 girls from the nearby primary school were provided life-changing education. Understanding menstruation is empowering. Alongside receiving reusable menstrual pads, the girls participated in a workshop led by educators from "Days for Girls" to learn accurate health information. The girls were delighted with their gift and left the session feeling hopeful about their future.
Spell-off Spectacular
Mitongwe held its inaugural spelling bee today. The children had been rehearsing for weeks, and their performance was outstanding! At the break, everyone danced, creating a lively atmosphere. The champion was awarded 4 notebooks, colored pencils, 2 pens, and a bag. Each participant left with 2 pencils. The event was a hit, and everyone eagerly awaits the next one.
Solar-powered Bibles
Dan, Irene, and Darci warmly received the Canadian group, including Dan and Nonie, Richard, and Chris, providing them with a wonderful experience to learn more about Mitongwe and the local community we connect with. Exploring the nearby villages allowed us to immerse ourselves in their culture and way of life. A special moment was distributing solar-powered audio Bibles to the elderly, witnessing their awe as they heard the Word of God in their language. To wrap up the visit, our guests joined us for a delightful lunch featuring local maize and vegetables, which we found very delicious.
Children are wild about the Youth Group!
We always have a great time with the youth group. They gather on Saturdays and Sundays to engage with Bible stories, games, and songs. The session concludes with a delightful meal of soup and fruit, which they truly relish. It's always a joyful morning!
A Special Treat just for the LADIES!
Who knew that underwear and bras would be so difficult to find in the remote villages near Mitongwe? A group of women from White Rock learned about our situation and rallied their friends to collect these items for our women in Malawi. Darci arrived with a 50 lb backpack filled with these amazing essentials. The women were thrilled to receive them. Each woman received 2 bras and 3 pairs of underwear, leading to excitement and joy as they danced and sang in gratitude!
