Mitongwe in October

Welcome to October. True, October may be almost over, but it has been such a great month we want to welcome you to all the events that have excited us.

Dan is in Malawi. He arrived in Mitongwe in early October.

He was welcomed by our staff who were so excited to show all that has been accomplished since December.

Speaking of staff…let’s talk about our Sponsorship Program.

Our Sponsorship program provides donors with the opportunity to positively impact the lives of our staff and their families. We provide employment, training, and programs their families can take part in, which adds value through the generations. Let’s meet a few of our staff that will benefit from Sponsorship.

Judith is a single mother with three children, between 10 and 17 years old. She works hard in our Community Kitchen with the team that prepares nutritious meals for the preschoolers, young warriors, and guest programs. They cook on open fire stoves, using fuel harvested from the property.

Judith is also involved in the Church, loving the services full of song and dance, and learning to love God, oneself and others.

We've talked about composting before, but it's one of our simple training programs that makes such a difference to farmers. A day was spent at Nkototkota Primary School training the children, who were so eager and did a great job. This one pile of compost can fertilize 1 acre, is easily replicable and costs nothing. The school was challenged to make more and invite all parents to come and see and learn.

From Compost to Clothes…

We see the joys of opportunity and the sorrow of reality in so many situations. A lovely simple moment was brought to our attention by one of our Early Childhood Development teachers. Several children were coming in the same clothes every day as it was all they had. Our team gathered some clothes from the container and blessed them with an assortment. Joy for sure!

OK, one more story and this is amazing!

Dan received a call from one of our team members that there was a pregnant village woman in labour nearby. She was exhausted, trying to walk to the local clinic as she had no funds for transportation, had not eaten, and was in distress. When Dan arrived, she had just given birth, and needed some additional medical attention, but was the mother of a new, healthy baby boy. Needless to say, they cleaned her up, gave her something to eat, and drove her and the baby boy to the hospital. This photo shows Dan, one of the staff and newborn Baby Dan (indeed, they did name the baby Dan)

Thank you for your interest in our projects! We rely on generous contributions from people like you to keep our work going. Please consider making a donation today to help us make a positive difference in Malawi. Thank you for your support!
